The start of a new year is an opportunity for a fresh start. As we reflect on the past, oftentimes this helps us think about how to make improvements for the upcoming year! We’re only eleven days into 2019, yet here at inkbox we’re already actively working hard towards our New Year's resolutions! Check out what goals some of our inkbox employees have set for themselves for 2019, and how they’re working to achieve them!

Danielle - Creator Marketing Coordinator

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

To be better about who I give my energy to.

Why?

I spent a lot of time in 2018 letting toxic people dictate how I’d spend my free time. I’m hoping to let go of that habit in 2019 and to be more independent outside of them.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Leaving a social event as soon as I’m not interested anymore. Making my own plans and sticking to them despite who joins me. More steps, TBD!

Talia - Experiential Marketing Coordinator

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

To “Be Better”.

Why?

Keeping it less specific and simply an umbrella goal reduces the amount of pressure to get that one thing done and then feeling bad if I don’t accomplish that goal. ‘Be better’ just focuses on improving every aspect of my life, whatever I decide it to be at the time.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Using these two words as a reminder to improve in the way I feel necessary for the thing I want to improve on. It will help me acknowledge the things I want to work on!

Nareg - Lab Technician

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

Not to waste food at home and bringing a lunch at least 4/5 times a week!

Why?

Eating healthier becomes significantly cheaper! Eating out (even fast food) is expensive, and even more expensive if you want something healthy. I used to do grocery shopping in bulk once a week but then things just sit and eventually have to get thrown out, especially when I get take out at work. Save money and eat healthier!

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Do incremental grocery shopping on the bike ride back from work daily (grab a few things at a time) to not waste food/money, and have my co-worker shame me every time I don’t bring lunch (hasn’t happened yet!)

Cruz - Customer Specialist

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

My New Year’s resolution is to take more portraits to add to my portfolio :).

Why?

Last year I was featured in 3 different art galleries/shows, which I never would’ve imagined. This gave me a lot of exposure in the photography community, so this year I’m hoping to be featured in 5!

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Since last year, I’ve been using Tinder as a networking tool to find subjects to shoot, as well as networking with other artists in Toronto that I find along the way. I’ve found that this helped me a lot because it seems as though everybody’s willing to model for me, so I’m going to continue doing what I’ve been doing!

Jen - Office Manager

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

To voice more positive thoughts about people.

Why?

It makes people feel good and helps build friendships.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Whenever I have a thought such as “that’s a nice shirt” or “that was a really good idea”, I’m going to make a point of telling that person.

Melina - Business Development Representative

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

To hang out more just myself and to stop using distractions.

Why?

I want to stop surrounding myself with people who don’t treat me the way I should be treated, and distractions are only a temporary fix.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Keeping doing things for myself, and continue to work on my side projects that I’m passionate about! Also, would like to practice more self-love.

Nikki - Artist Community Coordinator

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

My 2019 goal is to “live the dream”.

Why?

I was looking for sort of a mantra to back my actions with this year, as a reason for doing things I might not normally do. I have other goals under this that I want to accomplish, such as travelling somewhere solo or to become physically the strongest that I’ve ever been, but these three words encompass them all.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

To start the year, I actually began keeping a bullet journal, where I sat down and wrote out a list of things I want to accomplish in 2019. I know that taking time to reflect and write in this book each day works for me, and it will help me to realize where I am, where I’m coming, and how far I’ve gone. I have a list of goals to accomplish for the day/week/month/year, and even just the act of checking these things off upon their completion motivates me to keep going and keep getting more things done instead of reverting to laziness and my “I’ll do it tomorrow” attitude. So far, 2019 has been a dream!

Ella - Supply Chain Manager

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

To stop purchasing fast fashion and shop vintage!

Why?

Climate change is real and we will feel the effects of it in our lifetime. Staring into the abyss of my closet filled with things I never wear was giving me a lot of guilt and anxiety.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

I’m disconnecting from Instagram bloggers/hypebaes who I’ve looked to daily for “fashion inspo”. They helped me decide what I should buy in order to stay “on trend” but I’m now making an effort to shop vintage or only buying from local or sustainable brands whenever I need something (or just need retail therapy, let's be honest). The environmental costs of fast fashion are REAL people!

Diandra - Community Manager

What is your New Year’s Resolution?

To be more mindful and focus on bettering my mind whether it's through behavior, habit building, and mindset shifts.

Why?

Because I can feel my behavior slipping a bit out of my hands, which I need to take better ownership over and I really want to grow this year both physically and mentally.

What steps are you currently taking to achieve this?

Oh man, lots of things! I’m trying to read these ten books that are to help improve mindset/behavior. Journalling, researching (love to take notes when reading articles), building habits (found this great app called Fabulous that is science-backed and I LOVE it so far), taking better care of myself through small easy-to-achieve steps.

So that leaves the question, what are inkbox’s New Year’s resolutions for 2019?

As inkbox continues to grow and spread tattoo love all over the world, one resolution we are especially passionate about in 2019 is to put more focus on sustainability. The alarming effects of climate change are already affecting many parts of the world and we want to make it our goal to help the planet become (say it with us) “Better Than Yesterday”. Our team has been working hard on sourcing more eco-friendly materials and reducing the amount of waste we produce, and we are confident in making this resolution a reality in 2019.

In striving for a more sustainable environment, inkbox HQ has also formed a green initiative within our office, in which a dedicated group of “The Green Team” will continually develop creative strategies to make our day-to-day operations more environmentally friendly. So far, we have found ways to implement a composting program, made recycling much more accessible, and plan to create many new plant babies at our office this year.

Be sure to look out for some exciting changes coming in 2019!
