Have you ever wanted to test out that tattoo you’ve been thinking of? With our custom tattoo platform, you can create your own design and we’ll make it into an inkbox, just for you. Although you might be thinking, “But I’m not an artist...” Don’t sweat it. With our easy-to-use platform if you can think it, you can ink it. Our team of custom tattoo designers personally edit each and every tattoo that comes through the platform, so they have some tips and tricks to make your tattoo come to life.

Keep it simple

One important aspect to keep in mind when designing your tattoo is that inkbox tattoos need to be stencils. This means that the design needs to be created in a way so that when the white adhesive covering the tattoo is peeled off during application, that it is peeled off in its entirety and there’s no spaces that are left stuck to the sticky part of the tattoo. You don’t need to worry about stencilling the tattoo yourself, our graphic designers gotchu. However, this is still something to keep in mind when creating because there will be “cuts” in lines in order to make your tattoo the perfect inkbox. For more on how to stencil, you can check out this page.

Uploading an image

You can upload an image to be made into an inkbox, however some pictures work better than others. Black and white line drawings that are high resolution are best! Take a quick scroll through our catalogue designs to get an idea of what will work well. Images that have shading won’t convert into an inkbox well, so it’s best to choose a cleaner blackwork design. If you really want to upload a coloured photo, trying converting it to black and white before uploading and boosting the contrast.

When choosing an image to upload, it’s best to stay away from photos of other people’s tattoos. The design may end up warped due to the curves of that person’s skin! We also don’t endorse using other people’s art without their permission. Instead, try to simply take inspiration from the design and take your best crack a recreating it with your own personal twist.

Size matters!

When picking out a design, consider the size of the inkbox. If your tattoo idea is highly detailed, the inkbox will need to be a larger size. Keep in mind that our largest sizes are 4x4 inches and 5x2 inches, so if you’re truly after a larger piece we’d recommend our Freehand Ink! Your custom tattoo editor will let you know if the size of your tattoo need to be increased.

Write it right

Quote tattoos are hugely popular. Maybe you’re thinking of testing out a quote from your favourite book, a line from your favourite song, or your personal mantra. If you want a personalized word or quote, type it out with one of our pre-stenciled fonts that are built right into the custom platform! All of our fonts are already stencilled, so our custom team won’t need to make many changes and the design will look closer to the real thing! Stay away from uploading a picture of a quote.
